Born in New Orleans, Louisiana and educated at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Ladd P. Ehlinger, Jr.
began his film career in high school writing screenplays that he would later translate into 16mm films at the University of
New Orleans film school. From there he went on to sell screenplays in California and New York before turning his talents to 3D
animation in the mid 1990s. During that time he produced many award winning multimedia presentations for a variety of clients.
In November 2000, Ladd co-founded ResPower, Inc., the world’s only self-service computation-on-demand system.
As a 3D animator, Ladd identified the universal need for 24/7 access to a system that would guarantee speed, reliability and affordability.
ResPower was started as the world's only self-service “render farm”, a collection of computers that work together to turn a 3d wire frame animation into a full-colored image sequence. Since 3d animations are very computer intensive, they often require the use of hundreds of computers in order to generate them in a timely manner. Ladd’s idea was that ResPower would wrap the power of a massive render farm into a web-enabled application available not only to large and small 3d animation firms, but to architects, graphics firms and mechanical illustrators. Users could simply log on to the site and render, almost as if the ResPower render farm were right there in their own facilities.
Ladd left ResPower at the end of 2004 to found Flatland Productions Inc. which produces animated videos as well as feature length films.
