The Dream

In November 2004, filmmaker and animator Ladd Ehlinger Jr. embarked on a decades-long dream: a feature film adaptation of the novel Flatland.
"So many independent filmmakers get lost in this purgatory of chasing big budgets, studios, name actors," he said. "I wanted to avoid all that."
Flatland proved to be the perfect material for a solo project.
Since Ehlinger had over fifteen years' experience as a freelance 3D animator, he would need no technical crew members besides himself.
"I could model and animate the characters. Edit the film. Cut the sound. I didn't need anyone to help me. Just a lot of computers," said Ehlinger. "And it wouldn't matter if it didn't look Hollywood."
"I saw it as a think piece, a cult film, not Toy Story or Cars. It's not about making a brain-dead movie with the most incredible eye-popping 3D animation ever." said Ehlinger.
"It's about making the most thought-provoking 3D animation ever."

Messiah Incorporated, a floating enterprise dedicated to shareholder value. Oh, and bringing Flatlanders the gospel of 3D for the Spaceland government.
